Engineering December Holidays
December of 2016 has three holidays (Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Year's Eve). Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve fall on Saturday, and will be observed on Sunday. Christmas and New Year's Day, which falls on Sunday will be observed on Monday. Employees should only reduce their work week for the holidays observed on Monday (Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve).
For example: employees assigned 5/8s and 4/10s schedules will work 32 hours the week of December 26 and January 2, and receive 48 hours of pay.
BMWE compressed schedules of T1 and T2 are 88 hours in the second half of December. Such gangs will work 80 hours of straight time, observe 8 hours of holiday pay and receive an additional 8 hours of holiday pay for a total of 96 hours.
It is important to note that New Year's Eve Holiday will be paid the first half of January pay check due to the fact it is observed on Sunday.
BRS Y5 and Y6 schedules, if holidays occur during the eight consecutive work days, employees will reduce their schedules accordingly. If the holiday occurs during the accumulated rest days, employees will be paid pursuant to the National Holiday Agreement.
