UPDATE- Electronic Device Training/Exam

Questions on Instructions/HOS/Pay

There have been questions about whether the electronic device instruction and test can be taken at home and about pay for the course.

Q: Where can I take the test? Will I get paid for taking the course?

The instructions are that employees are to take the course and test as part of their normal work shift, either at the beginning or end, without going over hours of service limits.

The instructions are that employees are to take the course and test as part of their normal work shift, either at the beginning or end, without going over hours of service limits. The time taken will be included in the shift for that day for pay purposes. The course and test is mandated by the FRA and audits should reflect it being taken at the beginning or ending of a shift. Service units have been instructed to allow for the taking of this instruction. Much of the information has already been made available with FRA Emergency Order #26 The time to take this refresher instruction and short test is minimal and should not interfere with operations.
