Co-Worker Report

Show You Care for Your Fellow Employees

There are many avenues for employees to gain assistance with drug and alcohol problems. The Co-Worker Report/By-Pass Agreement is just one way for employees to receive help from the company’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP).  Both the Co-Worker Report and By-Pass Agreements allow employees to show care and support for fellow employees by reporting unsafe behavior and allowing the fellow employee to receive help without the fear of discipline.

Co-Worker Report and By-Pass Agreements are similar in principle. The main difference is that the Co-Worker Report is part of the UP D&A-Policy and By-Pass Agreements are included in employees’ collective bargaining agreements. As the Co-worker report is part of the UP D&A-Policy, it is available to all employees. If you are unsure if your agreement contains a By-Pass Agreement, you can submit a question to LR Connection via Ask LR.

If an employee is concerned a fellow employee has come to work in an unsafe manner, they should report that information to a manager. Upon receiving such information, the manager will determine if the employee is in violation of the UP D&A-Policy by having the employee submit to a drug and alcohol test. If so, the employee will be removed from service and instructed to contact EAP. If the employee complies with all instructions from the manager and EAP, no discipline will result or be recorded. An employee is afforded the opportunity of a Co-Worker Report or utilization of their By-Pass Agreement once.

For additional information on the Co-Worker Report and other referrals to EAP see the Drug and Alcohol Policy.
