Supplemental Sickness Benefits for MoW, Shop Craft and ARASA Employees

The Supplemental Sickness Benefit (SSB) Plans for MoW, Shop Craft and ARASA Employees provide that plan participants have 60 days from the date their disability begins to provide notice of disability to the plan administrator -- Aetna Life Insurance Co..  Failure to provide timely notice will result in the denial of a claim for benefits without regard to whether the Plan is prejudice by the delay.  Plan participants may be relieved from this requirement only if their failure to comply is due to a serious physical or mental injury or illness.  In that circumstance, the participant must provide notice as soon as improvement of their condition reasonably permits.  The 60-day notice rule was adopted to ensure that the Plans are administered uniformly.

The SSB Plan provides employees the following three choices to give notice of disability and file a claim:  (1) File the claim over the telephone by calling 1-800-205-7651; (2) File the claim online at www.wkabsystem.com; or (3) File using the claim form in the SPD booklet.

Employees should be aware of and abide by this important deadline that affects their ability to receive supplemental sickness benefits.  Details of the SSB benefits can be found in the applicable Summary Plan Description (SPD) booklets which were mailed to all eligible employees.  The SPD's can also be found on the NRLC Web site  .
